*The AA Responsibility Statement, "I am responsible. When anyone, anywhere, reaches out for help, I want the hand of AA always to be there. And for that I am responsible." was written for the 1965 AA International Convention in Toronto, Canada. The theme of the convention that year was "Responsibility".
The statement lives on in the program of AA and serves three main purposes:
1) It is a challenge to AA members to be responsible in all aspects of their lives.
2) It is a reminder that AA's mission is to help people who are suffering from alcoholism.
3) It is a call to action for AA members to be there for anyone who needs help, regardless of their circumstances.
